I’ve never shied away from talking about my body – I’ve always been open with you about my IBS, body image, my weight, everything. So I want to start a conversation about periods too.
I’ve always had an irregular cycle, and back when I was 21 I didn’t have a period for two whole years. It was so scary. That’s when I started my mission to connect with my body: eating whole foods, getting into yoga and exploring my feminine side. I went from thinking my period was icky to really embracing my cycle.
So in my new video I’m sharing my period story and chatting about Natural Cycles, a cool little app I’m using to track my fertile days. Using the tracker has made me embrace my cycle more – I’m more aware of mood swings and I make time to relax and give myself plenty of TLC. Contraception is a really personal thing – it takes trial and error to find out what works for your body.
I’d love to know what contraception you use and how you find it. And if you’re doing Natural Cycles let me know how long you’ve been using it for because I’m only two months in. Leave a comment over on my Insta and let me know.
I find Natural Cycles works for me because I’m in a committed relationship, my daily routine is quite structured and I take my temperature at the same time every day – I guess it wouldn’t work if you lived life more by the seat of your pants! On ‘red days’ when I’m fertile, I use protection. It’s telling that the average user age is 30 – Natural Cycles really isn’t recommended if you’re under 18 years old.
Like any contraception, Natural Cycles is not 100% effective at protecting against pregnancy, and it does not protect against STDs at all. But the method is 93% effective in terms of family planning. If you’re thinking about Natural Cycles yourself, there’s more info on their website: click here
