The holidays are a time for mass indulgence.
Now I am all for indulgence but we don’t want to make ourselves sick!
It’s all about getting to a nice stage of full without pushing the boundaries.
The first step to not overeat is to chew. Often we get very excited with an over abundance of food and dive in head first. The best thing to do is to take the time to chew. You want to chew each mouthful at least 10 times in your mouth, aiming to get it into a paste. Sounds disgusting right? But it really helps with digestion. When we don’t chew our food goes down in lumps and it sits there. Chewing our food switches on our leptin response so we feel full which will helps us to not overdo it.
Make sure that you take your time. Put your knife and fork down in between and take a breath. The food isn’t going anywhere. Just relax. It takes around 20 minutes to feel full so allow your body to ease into this.
Do you ever find when you skip lunch you eat 2-3x more at dinner? When you restrict your body it often feels like there is a shortage and it can start off a pattern of restriction and binge eating. Make sure you aren’t over hungry at a meal, it will allow you to feel a little more in control of what you are shoving into your gorgeous gob.
Always remember to be kind to your body! If you overeat a little don’t beat yourself up, we all do it. Just enjoy your time!
