Tips On Portion Control

Have look at your one of your hands, crunch it into a fist. This is roughly how big your stomach is. Most of us eat more than this and we’re used to it, our portion sizes are getting bigger and bigger. It’s a question that gets asked a lot on my social media so if you feel you are eating too much here are some tips on how to portion size.

Eat off smaller plates

While it may seem quite obvious, eating off smaller plates actually tricks your brain into believing you have eaten more than you have. Plus, a chance to stock up on some new, pretty, smaller plates!

Drink more water

Drinking a nice, big glass of cold water will make you feel full up before you start eating so in turn you will eat less. Proper hydration gives you boundless energy and glowing skin, also that glass will up your water intake for the day – win!

Chew slowly

I’m a big believer in chewing more, it takes your brain about 20 minutes to register that it is full so, in theory, the slower you eat the less you will end up eating!  Digestion starts in the mind, so get present while you’re eating – no distractions and no eating and tweeting.

Fill your plate

Try to visualise your plate as a pie-chart, fill a quarter of it with proteins, a quarter of it with carbohydrates and half of it with veggies.  Filling up on veggies is another great way to feel like you are eating more than you actually have done.

Eat small and often

Think of your beautiful body as a fire that you need to keep burning, rather than throwing a can of petrol on it stoke it through day; what I mean it rather than eating huge plates of food once or twice a day try have little fuel-ups during the day; carrot sticks and hummus, apple slices with almond butter or a few dates are a few I love.
