My Top 3 Winter Warmer Drinks
While I’m all about a comforting cup of herbal tea, as winter rolls around and my hot beverage intake starts to increase – I like to mix it up! Winter is all about staying warm and cosy, and nothing says this to me like a delicious cup of something sweet. Here are my top 3 winter warmer drinks you must try this chilly season!
What is winter without hot chocolate right? I use raw cacao instead of cocoa powder. Raw cacao contains an antioxidant called resveratrol, which helps protect the nervous system, reduces blood pressure, and boosts your mood producing phenylalanine – the same chemical produced when you fall in love!
250ml almond or coconut milk
1 tbsp. raw cacao
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. coconut sugar
Warm the milk, cacao, cinnamon and coconut sugar in a saucepan over low to medium heat. Pour into a mug and enjoy!
Date and Cinnamon Cardamom Almond Milk
Spiced with flavours of India, this warm beverage is the perfect nightcap! The cinnamon gives it a nice sweetness that helps to regulate blood sugar levels and reduce sweet late night cravings.
300ml almond milk
1 whole cardamom pod
5 medjool dates, pitted
1 cinnamon stick
Blend the milk with the cardamom and dates for 2 minutes, then strain through a fine sieve
Pour the milk into a saucepan and heat on a low simmer with the cinnamon stick for 5 minutes. Remove the cinnamon stick. Pour into a mug and sip away!
Indulgent Chai Latte
In case you haven’t already tried one, chai lattes are a delicious take on the traditional chai tea. You can find these in most cafes, however they are usually far from healthy! This is my guilt free take on an at home chai latte.
½ tsp. vanilla extract
250 ml almond milk (or milk of your choice)
4 medjool dates, pitted
1 tsp. cinnamon
Pinch of nutmeg
Pinch of cardamom
Place all ingredient into a stove on low to medium heat and stir slowly, allowing the medjool dates to soften, and the flavours to fuse together for about 5 minutes
Blend to ensure the dates are properly broken down and blend into the rest of the ingredients creating a creamy texture. Pour into a mug and enjoy!
