Get Your Glow Back – Episode 35 – with Dr Ron Ehrlich

Today I am joined by holistic dentist and author of A Life Less Stressed Dr Ron Ehrlich. We spoke all about his model of stress, what we can do to reduce the stress in our lives and how to look after our health for a happy stress free life.

5 types of stress

Emotional

We are connected with the world but we aren’t connected with the person next to us

We are constantly bombarded with information and may feel we don’t have control over events or what happens to us

What we do have control over is how we think

Environmental

We are exposed to hundreds of chemicals everyday making informed decisions about what you put on or in your body

Everything we buy is a vote, by choosing things which are less chemically complicated we support the people we should be supporting as well as our own health

Postural

We constantly have our shoulders forward and spend a lot of time sitting

Its best to sleep on your back, sleeping on your front can restrict breathing and cause snoring

Sitting on the toilet is a stressor

Solution use a pillow to start side sleeping, sleeping on the left side is thought to be better for digestion

Nutritional

Eat mostly fresh food

Ethically grown food is important

Natural oils are important

Filter water and add a sprinkle of himalayan salt for your own mineral water

Dental

Common denominator in degenerative disease is inflammation

The most common sign of inflammation is in the mouth – gingivitis

The size and shape of your mouth determines the size and shape of your airway

The majority of people need to have wisdom teeth removed as we have evolved to have smaller jaws

5 pillars of wellness:

Breathing

Ideally we should breathe through our nose

Nitric oxide is produced in the sinuses only when we breathe through our nose

8-12 breaths/minute

Breathing from the diaphragm

A powerful way of controlling the parasympathetic nervous system

Movement

Short bursts of exercise are most beneficial

Incorporate functional movements

Thought

Gratitude is a really important tool

Perma model – positive, engagement, relationships, meaning, achievement

Learn how to reflect and choose positive thoughts

Sleep

7-9 hours a night

Breathing well while you are asleep

Temperature and noise really affect our sleep so take the time to perfect these elements

Dont take technology into the bedroom

3 take aways

Your health is too important to leave to someone else

Dont be hard on yourself – aim for 80-20 and sustain it

Relationships and gratitude are really important, nurture and value your real relationships.

The more diverse, the more resilient, the more resilient the healthier
